The coalition called this Monday for the application of fair price regulations to ensure that farmers and ranchers in Huelva receive adequate remuneration for their work, thereby combating speculation that inflates the final cost of food.
“"If Por Andalucía is part of the Government, we will apply the fair price law that the right has refused to comply with."
A spokesperson for the group highlighted the significant disparity between what producers receive and what consumers pay. For instance, during the last strawberry campaign, growers in Huelva were paid between 1.20 and 1.30 euros per kilo, while the same product was sold in supermarkets for six to seven euros per kilo.
Por Andalucía has championed food sovereignty, emphasizing the need to protect producers from speculation by large distributors and intermediaries. They warned that an increasing number of small agricultural and livestock farms are disappearing due to high production costs, while other actors in the chain multiply their profits.
The coalition noted that various official reports confirm that the price of some products can multiply up to almost ten times from origin to final consumer. This situation, according to the group, demonstrates the need for greater public control and transparency in the food market.
Among the measures proposed by Por Andalucía are the strengthening of family farming, the promotion of short marketing channels, support for cooperativism, and effective oversight to prevent sales below cost and abuses of dominant positions by large chains.
