The rehabilitation works for the Government Sub-delegation headquarters in Huelva, situated on the central Gran Vía, have been paralysed for seven years. The last completed tasks finished in June 2019, and there is no scheduled date for their resumption. Meanwhile, the institution operates from a rented property on Berdigón Street, where it has been located since the works began in 2017.
The renovation of the building, considered emblematic in the Huelva capital, started in late September 2017 with a one-year execution period, which should have concluded in 2018. The initial contract was rescinded by the awarded company due to abandonment of works, having completed only 27.54% of the tasks. Subsequently, emergency measures were taken to ensure the building's stability, watertightness, and safety, finishing in June 2019.
Following the emergency works, the State Commercial Company for Real Estate Management and Assets (Segipsa) drafted a project to improve functionality and redistribute interior spaces, aiming to delineate services and configure administrative departments. The exterior facade rehabilitation is fully completed.
The pending intervention inside includes the elimination of official residences to adapt these spaces for administrative use, with the goal of regrouping various Government Sub-delegation offices in the building and optimising public resources. Tragsa was expected to carry out this final phase. The outstanding works involve resolving deteriorations in the ground floor slab and pillars, restoring the facade, renovating the building's floors, and improving accessibility. However, there is no date for the resumption of works, and the building will remain closed indefinitely.
