An unfortunate incident has affected CEIP Miguel de Cervantes in Lucena del Puerto, Huelva, following the theft of money collected for student excursions. This event immediately forced the cancellation of a trip planned for Primary students on Monday.
Sources from the Guardia Civil have confirmed that an official investigation has been launched to clarify the facts and locate those responsible for the theft. The school's director, Jesús Rodríguez, informed Huelva Información that the teaching staff discovered the cash missing early Monday, just before making a bank deposit to finalize payments. The theft is presumed to have occurred over the weekend.
“"It's shameful."
The most immediate consequence has been the cancellation of the trip to Castillo de las Guardas, causing great disappointment among the young students. Unable to proceed with the excursion, the school improvised an alternative plan, taking the students to a nearby picnic area so they could at least enjoy their snack outside the classrooms.
In addition to the Primary school trip money, the stolen funds included the amount collected for the 2nd ESO students' end-of-year trip, which was destined for Madrid. Rodríguez emphasized that this is an “isolated incident,” as the school does not typically keep large amounts of cash on hand, but the timing of payments for both activities meant the sum was larger on this occasion.
The board of CEIP Miguel de Cervantes has expressed deep regret over the incident, particularly concerning the emotional impact on students, and trusts that the Guardia Civil's investigations will soon yield results to recover the funds and restore normalcy to the school's schedule.
