The XXVII Pilgrimage to El Rocío, organized by the 'La Libertad' Rociera Association, has become a well-established event, maintaining its commitment to social reintegration. This year, the town of San Juan del Puerto has once again served as the first stop on the route.
A key new feature this edition was an earlier departure time, allowing pilgrims to undertake the journey with greater ease. This change was accompanied by a significant modification to the itinerary through San Juan del Puerto, passing through streets such as Trigueros, Plaza de la Iglesia, Real, Toledo, and Avenida de la Esperanza, as reported by the San Juan Town Council.
The pilgrims were received at 08:15 next to the cemetery, where they were greeted by municipal representatives and members of the Governing Board of the El Rocío Brotherhood. One of the most moving moments occurred in the church, with the recitation of the Salve before the Simpecado, attended by ecclesiastical figures.
After a breakfast offered at the El Rocío Brotherhood House, the procession continued its journey towards the village of Almonte, with planned stops in Moguer, Coto de Montemayor, and El Milanillo, before spending the night at the brotherhood house in Palos de la Frontera.
The arrival in El Rocío is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, where the pilgrims will participate in a farewell mass at the hermitage at 17:30. This event will be marked by a tribute to the prison officials who died in the Adamuz railway accident, an homage that will be present throughout the journey with a black ribbon on the association's Simpecado.
