This significant step forward follows the unanimous approval in the last plenary session of the Provincial Corporation of the formal request to initiate the process before the Ministry of Culture, the competent body to manage the administrative procedure and issue the final decision.
The meeting, which underscores the institutional commitment to protecting Huelva's heritage, was attended by representatives from the Provincial Council and the Junta de Andalucía, as well as members of the Provincial Heritage Commission, who contributed their technical expertise for a coordinated analysis.
During the meeting, the necessary steps were analyzed to streamline the bureaucratic process and ensure that the BIC declaration proceeds as quickly as possible.
Once rehabilitated, the space will be used for cultural and civic purposes, open to the entire province of Huelva. The goal is to transform it into a multipurpose center that will host cultural activities, exhibitions, and community events, fostering social participation and the enjoyment of heritage.
The old Huelva-Término station, built in the late 19th century, is a symbol of railway development and the history of the province. Its architecture and its relevance as a connection point make it a space of great historical and cultural significance for Huelva.
Despite its value, the building has suffered the passage of time and serious incidents, which, coupled with a lack of use, has led to increasing neglect. Actions to reverse this situation began after the acquisition of the building by the Provincial Council, which has implemented surveillance and conservation tasks to halt its deterioration while its declaration as a Site of Cultural Interest is processed and rehabilitation works are activated.
