The Huelva Provincial Prison has served as the starting point for seventeen inmates who, once again, are participating in the pilgrimage to the hermitage of the Blanca Paloma in El Rocío. This journey, which has become an annual tradition over the past twenty-seven years, is organized by the Rociera Association 'La Libertad' and represents a meaningful opportunity for the social reintegration of the participants.
The pilgrims began their route on Tuesday, April 21, departing an hour earlier than usual to enjoy the journey with greater tranquility, as explained by association sources. For two days, the inmates will temporarily leave the prison walls to traverse an environment that, in spring, is imbued with faith and devotion, concluding their journey on Wednesday, April 22.
The itinerary of this unique pilgrimage includes stops in San Juan del Puerto, Moguer, the Coto de Montemayor, and El Mainillo, before reaching the Aldea del Rocío. The night before their arrival, the pilgrims will stay in Palos de la Frontera. As a gesture of remembrance, the simpecado accompanying the procession will carry a black ribbon in memory of the two prison officials who died in an accident in Adamuz on January 18.
The pilgrimage will conclude with a farewell mass offered at 5:30 PM in memory of the aforementioned officials from the Huelva penitentiary center, reaffirming the spiritual and communal nature of this event.
