The Infoca Plan has reinforced the firefighting efforts for the wildfire declared in the Los Turbios area, within the municipality of Villanueva de Los Castillejos (Huelva), with the progressive incorporation of 19 aerial resources. The fire, which remains active, necessitated the preventive evacuation of 365 people yesterday and maintains a significant ground operation with 360 personnel and 13 water trucks.
Weather conditions, marked by strong northwesterly winds reaching 35-40 km/h and a dense fuel load, have complicated operations. According to the Minister of Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, the fire started with a growth rate of 100 hectares per hour, burning 600 hectares in its first six hours. The affected area already exceeded 2,000 hectares last night and has evolved in a complex manner.
The fire is advancing southwards towards the municipality of Gibraleón. Although the area of woody eucalyptus it is currently burning is reducing its speed of advance, it is increasing its intensity. The left flank of the fire has already crossed the Odiel river, and there is a possibility of a wind shift after 4:00 PM that could further complicate the situation.
The 365 people preventively evacuated yesterday from San Bartolomé de la Torre, whose farms and urbanizations were threatened by the flames, are being assisted at the municipal Sports Pavilion. The mayor of San Bartolomé de la Torre, María Eugenia Limón, stated that "the worst part of the fire has passed" in her municipality, and the front is now advancing towards Gibraleón. Approximately 40 residents have already returned to their homes.
The Advanced Command Post has been established in San Bartolomé de la Torre, coordinating the efforts of Infoca Plan, Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, and local councils. The president of the Provincial Council of Huelva, David Toscano, is closely monitoring the fire's evolution. Personnel from the Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Huelva intervened to protect a home in San Bartolomé de la Torre, keeping it safe without risk to its occupants.
