The group's spokesperson in the Huelva City Council has called on the municipal government to act “immediately” to stop the decay of Villa Rosa. This enclave, located in El Conquero, is in a critical state after years of abandonment, as warned by the group.
In a press release, the spokesperson criticized the heritage management by the current local executive, as well as previous administrations, noting that the property “has been deteriorating for too long” without effective measures being taken to ensure its conservation and prevent its disappearance.
“"The state of the building is unacceptable; it is not just the loss of a structure, but a key element of the collective memory and identity of the city."
The area, considered a natural balcony over the Huelva estuary, has become a symbol of political neglect and heritage deterioration. What was once an architectural landmark is now an example of abandonment and apathy, according to the complaint.
The group highlighted that Villa Rosa shows cracks in its walls, detachments, and structural damage, in addition to the recent collapse of one of its side walls. This situation, in their view, demonstrates that the property has reached a “breaking point” without strong actions being taken.
This case reflects a heritage management approach based on intervening late and only when deterioration is irreversible, which leads to the progressive loss of the city's historical legacy. The group also emphasized the growing public concern over the state of this enclave, noting that numerous citizens and cultural groups have long been demanding urgent intervention for its recovery and heritage enhancement.
