Construction work on the new Provincial Historical Archive of Huelva is progressing with its interior phase, including the installation of flooring, partition walls, and electrical systems. According to sources from the Government Subdelegation, between twenty and twenty-five people have been working on these tasks for the past few months.
Despite this progress, the Huelva City Council has unanimously approved a motion to demand that the Government of Spain reactivate this project and other pending investments in the city. The spokesperson for the municipal government team noted that the new Archive, a "grey concrete mass," has been "stalled for ten years, ten years of excuses and no solution," considering it an essential infrastructure for preserving historical memory.
“"It is a matter of political will; it is the only project funded one hundred percent by the Government, yet it is delayed, with no visible progress or certainty."
The motion also referred to the halt in improvement works at the Government Subdelegation headquarters. A non-attached councilor stated that the "reality is difficult to dispute" due to "constant interruptions," emphasizing the need to push forward infrastructures that "never quite materialize."
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for an opposition municipal group criticized the "eternalization of the works," stressing that Huelva needs "real investments." In contrast, the spokesperson for another municipal group assured that all investments included in the motion, such as the Provincial Archive, the Subdelegation headquarters, the AVE high-speed rail, and the third lane of the A-49, "are underway, tendered, or under construction," asserting that the Provincial Archive works "are not paralyzed" and "are maintaining their pace."
