Huelva's Colombinas Festival begins by commemorating the feat of the Plus Ultra flight, with its entrance recreating the arches that welcomed the aviators a century ago.

Huelva is celebrating its annual Colombinas Festival from this Wednesday until next Monday, offering six days of fun, community, and music. The festival commemorates the departure of the discovery ships in 1492 and, this year, also marks the centenary of the flight of the Plus Ultra, a seaplane that completed the first transatlantic crossing between Palos de la Frontera and Buenos Aires (Argentina).
The great feat of Spanish aviation, which began on January 22, 1926, with Ramón Franco, Julio Ruiz de Alda, Juan Manuel Durán, and Pablo Rada as crew, covered 10,270 kilometers in 19 days. In their memory, the entrance to the fairgrounds reproduces one of the arches designed by architect José María Pérez Carasa, which adorned the city upon their return.
The Exhibition Booth will host a display organized by the city councils of Huelva and Palos de la Frontera, narrating the history of the entrance and offering a photographic journey through the Plus Ultra flight, including its 75th anniversary and the centenary events.
The venue features a new, expanded area for free concerts, which will host prominent artists. The opening night will feature M-Clan and El Canijo de Jerez with Los Estanques. On Thursday, performances by Ana de Caro, Marta Santos, and Gloria Bendita will be followed by the tribute band to Bob Marley 'One Love' and Juan Magán.
Saturday's highlights include the band Viva Suecia, preceded and followed by sets from DJ Dani P. and DJ BAU. On Sunday, Diego Guerrero and Lía Kali will perform, and the festival will conclude on Monday, August 3, with Rosario Flores, before a spectacular fireworks display.
The festival includes 62 booths, 19 of which belong to brotherhoods and collectives, offering local gastronomy such as choco, prawns, and ham, as well as the traditional Colombino punch. The site features a Municipal Operational Coordination Center (Cecopal), emergency service posts, 20 craft stalls, and children's and adult attraction zones, with approximately 4,500 parking spaces nearby.
