The Huelva capital is once again on alert due to a large plume of smoke visible throughout the city, just days after other similar incidents. The fire, declared in the Los Turbios area of Villanueva de los Castillejos, has deployed a large operation by the Infoca Plan, with about twenty aerial resources and over 110 ground personnel working in the area.
The City Council of Huelva has reported that wind is responsible for carrying the smoke to the city. In response, the council recommends following official channels, heeding the guidance of competent authorities, implementing self-protection measures, and avoiding the spread of unverified information. The council has expressed its support for the residents of Villanueva de los Castillejos and its appreciation for the firefighting professionals.
The acting Minister of Health, Presidency, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, director of the Infoca Plan, has elevated the fire to operational emergency phase 1, conveying a message of calm and prudence. He stated that there is currently no risk to the population and that coordinated efforts are underway to extinguish the fire as soon as possible.
The main obstacle to extinguishing the fire is a northwesterly wind with gusts of 35 km/h. Teams are focusing on the head of the fire and the right flank, areas with the highest fuel load. The mayor of San Bartolomé de la Torre, María Eugenia Limón, has urged the public to remain calm and thanked the deployed personnel for their efforts, requesting caution and avoidance of travel in the affected area. The Matuloso road remains closed by the Guardia Civil.
