Every spring, during the third weekend of May, this picturesque village in Huelva transforms to host one of the most genuine pilgrimages in the region. Far from large crowds, the celebration focuses on devotion and coexistence, uniting its inhabitants in a ritual that has remained unchanged over time.
Preparations begin on Friday with a floral offering in the Plaza de la Iglesia, preceding Saturday's "velá" in the Plaza de la Constitución. However, the night before the main day is when residents meticulously decorate the floats, a collective effort that ensures the splendor of the Simpecado and the entire procession.
On Sunday morning, the ringing of bells and the sound of the drum mark the departure. Horses and carts begin their journey along the ancient "verea de Sevilla" to the site of "La Mezquita", where the Hermitage of the Virgen de los Remedios is located, a 16th-century temple that is the heart of local devotion.
“"In Arroyomolinos de León, the word "outsider" does not exist. The Brotherhood keeps alive traditions that invite encounter, such as the distribution of classic sangria, a gesture that is a toast to coexistence."
The romería is distinguished by its welcoming nature, where hospitality is constant. It is common for friends and families to share bread, anecdotes, and shade with those who join the celebration, making every participant feel part of this deeply rooted mountain tradition.
