This initiative, coinciding with International Book Day on April 23, seeks to encourage reading habits among the elderly population, especially in towns with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.
The activity was presented by the president of the Malaga Provincial Council, alongside seniors from various locations such as Campillos, Sierra de Yeguas, Fuente de Piedra, Mollina, and Casabermeja. To carry out the distribution, two vans will travel throughout the province from Tuesday until May 12.
The route for the mobile libraries will begin in municipalities including Carratraca, Ardales, Pizarra, Villanueva de Algaidas, Cuevas Bajas, and Cuevas de San Marcos. The full schedule with routes, times, and specific locations for these mobile libraries can be consulted on the website of the Plan against Loneliness in Older People.
“"The book catalog has been updated again for this edition with important new additions, being broad and varied."
The collection includes novels such as El Susurro del Fuego and El Cuco de Cristal by Javier Castillo; Los Secretos de tu cuerpo by Noelia Amarillo; Licencia para espiar by Carmen Posadas; Reina Roja by Juan Gómez Jurado; and Soldados de Salamina by Javier Cercas. Poetry by Juan Ramón Jiménez and San Juan de la Cruz has also been incorporated, as well as cookbooks like 10 años de Masterchef. The offering is complemented by poetry collections from the Centro del 27 and publications from the Malaga Provincial Council's Publishing Center (CEDMA) on folklore, customs, and tourist and cultural resources of the province.
This initiative is part of the Plan against Loneliness in Older People, whose fundamental pillar is the Loneliness Helpline 900 92 30 92, a free service designed to offer listening, companionship, and closeness to those who need it.
