University of Granada plans to unify libraries in the Center campus

The Rectorate of the University of Granada is evaluating the unification of several faculty libraries located on the Center campus to optimize the use of limited urban spaces.

The Rectorate of the University of Granada is working on a reorganization of the Center campus, which houses faculties such as Law, Translation, Social Work, Labor Relations and Human Resources, and Political Science and Sociology. The location of these faculties in the urban heart presents space challenges that drive the search for solutions.
One of the proposals put forward by the Vice-Rector for Infrastructure, Germán Martínez, is the centralization of several libraries in the Center for Scientific Documentation, located on Rector López Argüeta. This measure would free up space in the faculties, especially in Social Work and Labor Relations and Human Resources, which suffer from greater space issues, a long-standing demand.
Martínez indicated that "all the needs" of the campus are being analyzed to define the real demands of each center, as the situation is "changing." Once the requirements are defined, this solution or other improvements for the university community will be implemented, promoting open and dynamic spaces over individual offices.
The intention is for this relocation of libraries to be completed within three years, coinciding with the term of Rector Pedro Mercado. The faculty of Law, which has an "exceptional" library on Duquesa Street, would be excluded from this unification proposal.
The Vice-Rector emphasized the need for "versatile" and shared teaching spaces, adaptable to changing teaching and research activities, which is complex to find in the city center. Currently, the university is in a "diagnostic phase" to make informed decisions.
The faculties of Labor Relations and Human Resources and Social Work share the San Jerónimo building (1992), while Political Science and Sociology is located in a 1950 building. The Center for Scientific Documentation (1997), which would house the new libraries, is a diverse space that includes university institutes and the University Historical Archive.
In parallel, progress is being made on other works, such as the third building at the Higher Technical School of Computer and Telecommunication Engineering and the project for the new Faculty of Dentistry on the Health Sciences campus.
