The Delegated Commission of the University Governing Board for Statute Reform at the UGR approved the draft of the new statutes last Tuesday, with the consensus of all its members. During the session, the allegations submitted during the public consultation period, which ran from March 19 to 27, 2026, were debated and approved.
This consultation period, the first for a statutory reform proposal, generated considerable interest, with nearly 4,000 visits to the document on the General Secretariat's website. A total of 51 allegations were formalized, of which 47 were deemed valid after formal review.
Active participation included members from all sectors of the university community, such as Teaching and Research Staff (PDI), Technical, Management, and Administration and Services Staff (PTGAS), and the student sector, as well as the Social Council of the University of Granada.
The allegations were classified by content and affected precept, identifying five blocks of identical allegations, referring to 183 precepts and 25 distinct thematic issues. Following a technical report by legal experts, the Delegated Commission approved the draft statutes on April 21.
Out of 183 distinct proposals, 21 (12%) were fully accepted, 41 (22%) partially accepted, and 121 (66%) rejected. Rejections were justified by reasons of normative hierarchy or by referring to detailed matters that fall outside the scope of the statutes, belonging instead to their subsequent regulatory development.
With the approval of the draft, the preparatory phase concludes, and the final stretch of the statutory reform process begins. From April 23 to May 14, Governing Board members will have the opportunity to submit amendments to the text. Subsequently, the Delegated Commission will assess their incorporation, and the text will be submitted for debate and final approval by the Governing Board in an extraordinary session scheduled for late May. Finally, the statutes will undergo external legal review by the Consultative Council of Andalusia.
