The Minister of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda, Óscar Puente, has announced that the Executive plans for conventional and Alvia trains between Granada and Almería to become direct again before next summer in 2027. Currently, these services terminate at the Huércal-Viator station, on the outskirts of Almería, requiring a bus transfer to the city terminal.
According to Adif, the works for the new intermodal station in Almería and its railway integration are projected to conclude in the fourth quarter of 2026. Following this, the authorization process for its commissioning will commence. Restoring direct rail circulation to the Almerian capital is among the priorities.
However, the arrival of High-Speed Rail (AVE) to Almería still lacks a specific date. Neither Puente nor the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, have provided a timeline. Bolaños acknowledged that a "quite precise" forecast exists but stated it will not be made public until it is "absolutely guaranteed."
The adaptation of the Granada-Guadix-Almería line to the Mediterranean Corridor, which will necessitate the closure of the track between the two capitals, is crucial. These works, with an estimated execution period of two and a half years, could impact the rail communication for Granada and Guadix. Adif had already indicated a potential closure for 2028 in its capacity restrictions catalog, aiming for the continental Corridor to be completed by 2030.
The completion date for the infrastructure of the Almería-Murcia line is pointed towards 2027, although government representatives have avoided officially confirming it, despite various forecasts placing the AVE's arrival in late 2029.
