The health center in Atarfe has seen its ambulance fleet reduced from midnight to eight in the morning, now operating with one less unit. This situation, compounded by a shortage of healthcare personnel ahead of the summer, is causing significant concern among professionals and residents of the area.
The withdrawal of this non-medicalized ambulance could potentially lead to the temporary closure of the center, given the inability to adequately serve a population exceeding 40,000 people, including those in the municipalities of Atarfe and Albolote.
While the Regional Government of Andalusia maintains that this is a resource reorganization rather than a loss, healthcare workers at the center have mobilized to demand the reinstatement of the night ambulance. Previously, in addition to this unit, they had a medicalized mobile ICU.
The issue is that the mobile ICU, being medicalized, requires both a technician and a doctor, leaving the clinic's staff in a precarious position to cover the nighttime demand, which is considered reasonable.
