Following strong winds on Friday, Saturday in Granada was dominated by rain, which in many areas carried mud, even turning Sierra Nevada a brownish hue. Despite the heavy downpour, the Local Police confirmed that none of the reported incidents were serious, and critical areas like Avenida Andalucía and the Helicopter Roundabout functioned normally.
The rainfall caught many Granadans off guard. After a pleasant start to the weekend, the sky darkened around midday. Thunder heralded the arrival of clouds, which unleashed rain across various parts of the capital and province. One striking image was Carrera del Darro, which transformed into a veritable river, forcing local businesses to install barriers to protect their premises.
Similar situations occurred at the Nevada Shopping Center, where visitors were temporarily stranded by the intense rain, unable to reach the outdoor parking or the Metro stop. Warnings for potentially strong local storms, possibly accompanied by hail, were activated at 3 PM in the Genil Basin (73 municipalities) and in Nevada and Alpujarra.
For Sunday, a sharp drop in temperatures is expected, not exceeding 21 degrees Celsius, a significant change from the 27.9 degrees recorded at the airport on Friday. During Saturday's alert, accumulations of up to 20 liters per square meter per hour were anticipated in the Genil Basin, and 15 liters in the Alpujarra and Nevada region, where hail was also a possibility.
