The change of month and the peak of the holiday season trigger a special operation to mitigate traffic complications. A significant increase in mobility is expected on Granada's roads, both for those heading to the Costa Tropical and for those returning to the capital. This weekend is anticipated to be one of the most challenging of the Summer Operation.
To facilitate the return from the Costa Tropical, the DGT will open an extra lane using cones in the opposite direction of usual on the A-44. This measure will be in effect on Sundays in August, between kilometers 158+500 and 143+520, and between 182+500 and 168+400. The aim is to maintain three lanes of traffic from Motril to the junction of the A-44 with the GR-30 in Otura, easing access to Granada city.
The scheduled hours for this measure are from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, although they may be adjusted based on traffic conditions. The Traffic Management Centers in Málaga and Seville will enhance surveillance and control, with over 60 officials and specialized technical staff monitoring Andalusian roads. Aerial resources such as helicopters and drones will be used to monitor main routes and detect incidents.
The Civil Guard's Traffic Group will carry out its usual assistance and surveillance services on Granada's interurban road network, paying special attention to routes with expected high traffic volume. This operation is part of the Summer Traffic Operation 2026, which runs until September 6th and anticipates 23.4 million movements in Andalusia.
The convergence of holiday travel with the Strait Crossing Operation (OPE) and the influx of Portuguese and North African vehicles will increase traffic intensity. As a new feature, this summer marks the mandatory use of the connected V-16 beacon, which automatically transmits the vehicle's location in case of an incident to the DGT 3.0 platform.
Additionally, the 018 helpline is highlighted, a free and confidential service for victims of traffic accidents, available 365 days a year to offer psychological, social, legal, and medical guidance.
