The events occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 22, in the North District of the city of Granada, when officers from the Prevention and Reaction Unit responded to reports of an illegal gambling game. The intervention was met with significant hostility from those present.
According to estimates by the National Police, approximately two hundred people, belonging to different groups, attacked the officers from various directions. During the altercation, an individual threw a bottle, striking an officer in the knee and causing injuries. The alleged assailant, who has a criminal record, has been identified through surveillance cameras and is currently being sought.
“"The area has been reinforced with officers from the Police Intervention Unit, and a helicopter is also participating, with the fundamental objective of locating and arresting the alleged perpetrator of the events."
The confrontation lasted well into the night. As a result of the incidents, two women have been arrested so far. Other officers also suffered assaults and had to use their shields for defense, as some of the gathered individuals displayed bladed weapons. Around seventy people involved in the incident have been identified, keeping the entire neighborhood on alert.
