The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, participated in Granada in the conference ‘Towards a New Architecture of Coexistence and Public Security’, held at the Euro-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies. During his speech, the minister highlighted the significance of institutional collaboration in confronting current challenges facing the Government, including migration, the fight against radicalization, hate crimes, and disinformation.

Marlaska praised the work of the Euro-Arab Foundation, stating that "for over 30 years, it has been bridging Europe with the entire Arab world through knowledge creation, which in turn generates and aids coexistence and social cohesion, from the perspective of human rights and human dignity".

The minister argued that "democratic societies, strong societies, also need knowledge and science to understand how to address the challenges we face, which undoubtedly seek to undermine trust in institutions." He emphasized that they are working "jointly" to "create this cooperation between Europe and the Arab world".

He explained that "from the Ministry of the Interior, we work on crucial challenges such as preventing radicalization, which can lead to violent extremism and terrorism. We also focus on preventing hate speech as a precursor to all hate crimes. Furthermore, we confront disinformation, a phenomenon that, by exploiting specific crisis situations, aims to undermine the principles of democratic society".

Finally, Marlaska underscored the importance of tackling these challenges "from a positive perspective," enabling study to "anticipate any threat." "This is the clearest and most evident way to be stronger and to generate, as we are doing, policies that allow us to continue sustaining what we all feel most comfortable with: strong and democratic societies," he concluded.
