The Las Gabias City Council has completed the connection of Alhelí Street, an intervention costing 100,000 euros that involved removing a wall, urbanizing the road, and improving mobility in a residential area near El Sotillo Park.

The project focused on the central section of Alhelí Street, which was previously undeveloped, preventing continuity between its two ends. The works included paving the road, renovating sidewalks, and upgrading basic infrastructures, as well as creating accessible routes to ensure safe pedestrian transit.
Additionally, the road surface has been renewed at various points, pedestrian areas have been adapted, and new water supply and sanitation networks have been installed. These improvements will optimize the functioning of urban services in the area, benefiting residents.
The intervention was made possible by the City Council's acquisition of the private land where the wall obstructing the connection was located. Its removal eliminates a physical barrier that for years limited the continuity of the road, allowing progress in the definitive urbanization of this section.

"It allows connecting a road that had been closed for decades, improving neighborhood mobility and facilitating daily accessibility for residents."

Meri Sádaba · Mayor of Las Gabias
The mayor of Las Gabias, Meri Sádaba, who oversaw the progress of the works alongside the councilor for Public Works, Infrastructure, and Mobility, highlighted the importance of this action. She emphasized that, although such interventions require planning and time, they are essential for urban functioning and resolve difficulties that affected the area, improving both vehicular circulation and pedestrian traffic.
Sádaba also explained that this intervention is part of a broader plan for the progressive improvement of the urban environment. This strategy will continue with the future rehabilitation of El Sotillo Park, where green areas are expected to be reinforced, new recreational spaces created, and children's equipment incorporated. With this action, the City Council takes another step in improving connectivity between neighborhoods, enhancing accessibility, and modernizing the municipality's infrastructure.
