The operetta Katiuska, a masterpiece by Pablo Sorozábal, will officially close the II Granada Lyric Season 2025/2026 on May 16 at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium, promising a night of music and theater.

The performance of Katiuska, a two-act operetta, is scheduled for 8:00 PM and is organized by Juventudes Musicales Granada in collaboration with the Granada City Council and the Granada Opera Choir. This event marks the official conclusion of a season dedicated to opera, zarzuela, and vocal recitals.
Premiered in 1931, Katiuska was Sorozábal's first major success and a turning point in the evolution of contemporary Spanish zarzuela. The plot unfolds in revolutionary Russia, after the fall of tsarism, exploring themes of love, survival, and loyalty amidst a turbulent historical context, combining lyricism and powerful popular scenes.
The production will feature a distinguished cast, including soprano Inés Lorans in the title role of Katiuska, tenor Daniele Terenzi as Pedro Stakof, and Alejandro del Cerro as Prince Sergio. The cast is completed by Abraham García, Teresa Villena, David Villalba, Enrique García, and Leticia Rodríguez, among others.
The staging will also include the participation of the Granada Opera Choir, under the direction of Pablo Guerrero, and the Orquesta Filarmonía Granada, conducted by Ricardo Espigares. This performance aims to bring the richness of Spanish lyric theater closer to the people of Granada and is set to be one of the most significant cultural events of the spring in Granada.

"It is an important way to conclude such a grand and well-designed season as the one experienced at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium, with a work brought by Juventudes Musicales that demonstrates Granada's efforts to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031."

Jorge Saavedra · Councillor for Culture of the Granada City Council
The Councillor for Culture of the Granada City Council, Jorge Saavedra, highlighted the city's capacity, ambition, and talent to develop top-tier cultural seasons, connecting artistic excellence with the defense of its musical heritage. He also praised the work of Juventudes Musicales Granada for consolidating a stable and quality program that positions the city on the Spanish cultural map.
The II Granada Lyric Season has offered a varied program between October and May, with productions and concerts in emblematic venues such as the Monasterio de San Jerónimo, the Centro Federico García Lorca, the Teatro Isabel la Católica, and the Auditorio de Caja Rural Granada, further strengthening Granada's bid for European Capital of Culture 2031.
