The Chief Prosecutor's Office of Andalusia has addressed the controversy stemming from a socialist candidate's remarks, who described the death of two agents on May 8 off the coast of Huelva as a «work accident». The chief prosecutor emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, making it premature to determine the exact causes.
The candidate's comments during an electoral debate on Canal Sur Televisión sparked widespread criticism, particularly on social media. Her statement that «there are workers who die simply by earning a living» was deemed unfortunate by many, including members of the Armed Institute.
The Jucil association, representing members of the Armed Institute, has expressed its belief that the agents' deaths were the result of «criminal conduct», rejecting the notion of an accident. Numerous agents have voiced their disagreement with the «accident» classification.
“"Absolutely nothing is ruled out because they are at the beginning of the investigation and cannot yet determine the cause."
The chief prosecutor, speaking at the inauguration of a conference on gender violence in Granada, stated that the events are under investigation and that it would be «very daring» for her to draw any conclusions prematurely. She also mentioned having spoken with the general of the Andalusia region and the DAO of the Armed Institute.
