The Junta de Andalucía has officially joined the Granada 2031 Consortium, the body responsible for managing the city's bid to become the European Capital of Culture, a crucial step in the final phase of the process.

This agreement was sealed during a working meeting held at the Granada City Council between the mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, and the Minister of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía, Patricia del Pozo. The Junta's integration follows the institutional support previously expressed by President Juanma Moreno to the mayor on March 19 at the Palacio de San Telmo.
The formalization of the Junta de Andalucía's participation in the Consortium comes at a critical time for the candidacy. Key dates have been set: the evaluators' report will be received on April 13, and November 3 is the deadline for submitting the final “bid book,” after which the experts' visit to Granada will be scheduled.

"The Junta's entry into the Granada 2031 Consortium is vital because it confirms that this candidacy represents all of Andalusia, which is an unequivocal sign of the solidity and seriousness of our project within our territorial scope."

Marifrán Carazo · Mayor of Granada
With this addition, the Granada 2031 Consortium is strengthened by having the Junta de Andalucía as a full member. This support structure already includes the Granada City Council, the Provincial Council, the University of Granada, the Chamber of Commerce, and the CSIC, consolidating a common front for the city's cultural aspiration.

"The Granada 2031 candidacy highlights the uniqueness and cultural richness of Andalusia as a whole, opening us to a more fertile and peaceful coexistence and serving as a hallmark and engine for economic modernization and international projection."

Patricia del Pozo · Minister of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía
Mayor Marifrán Carazo emphasized that this commitment is part of a determined effort for a culturally more vibrant city, more connected with its citizens, aiming for culture to be a lever for a stronger Andalusia.
