The Granada City Hall will be the venue on May 29th, at 8:45 PM, for the traditional Corpus Bullfighting Proclamation. This year, the speaker will be Juan García Montero, the city council's Culture Coordinator and a recognized bullfighting enthusiast.
The event, organized by the Los Tres Juanes Bullfighting Club in collaboration with the Granada City Council, will feature the participation of the Granada Municipal Music Band. It solidifies its position as one of the most important pre-festival events for the Corpus celebrations.
The councilor for Maintenance and Citizen Participation, Francisco Almohalla, emphasized that the Bullfighting Proclamation "is already part of the essence of our Corpus and symbolizes the start of a broad, varied program designed for all audiences." He highlighted that Granada "proudly lives its traditions, and this proclamation represents the link between culture, festivity, and passion that is part of our city's history."
This event marks its nineteenth edition under the organization of the Los Tres Juanes Bullfighting Club, establishing itself as a cultural and bullfighting benchmark for Granada's Corpus. "The proclamation has become a meeting point for fans, clubs, and citizens who view bullfighting as a cultural expression deeply rooted in Granada," the councilor stated.
“"I face this responsibility with emotion, respect, and affection for a tradition I have experienced since childhood."
Juan García Montero expressed his gratitude for the designation and his excitement for the responsibility, emphasizing "the cultural, human, and artistic values that bullfighting represents" and the historical significance of Granada and its bullring in the national bullfighting scene.
He recalled that Granada's bullring continues to be "a benchmark for enthusiasts and a fundamental space within the city's cultural and festive life," advocating for bullfighting's role in the popular identity of the Corpus.
The Los Tres Juanes Bullfighting Club has organized this proclamation for the nineteenth time. Previously, Canal Sur Radio promoted the event, featuring Granada bullfighters as speakers. Personalities from journalism, photography, culture, and the bullfighting world have graced the podium, enriching the cultural life of the Corpus.
With two exceptions, all editions have been held in the Granada City Hall Courtyard, an emblematic venue that will gather fans and citizens. Through this proclamation, Granada will kick off days of cultural celebration, music, and festivity, keeping alive the spirit of the Corpus.
