The town of Iznalloz, located in the Montes Orientales region, is hosting the third edition of its Heritage Days from April 12 to 21, aiming to highlight its extensive historical and cultural richness through an accessible and varied program.
The initiative, presented by Pilar Caracuel, provincial deputy for Culture and Education, and Jacinto Molinero, councilor for Culture and Heritage of Iznalloz, is consolidating its position as a benchmark in the dissemination and protection of local heritage. These events seek to promote knowledge, respect, and active citizen involvement in preserving a legacy that is an essential part of their identity.
This year's program places special emphasis on religious heritage, including an unprecedented exhibition dedicated to the Virgen de los Remedios and the figure of Diego de Siloé, the architect of the parish church, within the historical context of the Siete Villas. The inauguration on April 12 will feature the opening of the exhibition 'Mater Remediorum-Patrimonio de fe', which will display for the first time the heritage linked to Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, with pieces dating back to the 18th century.
Between April 13 and 15, dynamic visits will be conducted for students from the three primary schools in the town. On April 15, in collaboration with the Centro de Educación Permanente 'Los Montes', a guided heritage tour will highlight the influence of Roman, Arab, and Christian civilizations on the municipality. On April 16, a cultural trip to Granada will include visits to the Capilla Real, the cathedral, and the Monasterio de San Jerónimo, connecting the heritage of the capital with that of Iznalloz through the work of Diego de Siloé.
On April 17, the archaeological and historical study, cleaning, and enhancement works of the Puente Romano de los Ventorrillos, subsidized by the Diputación de Granada, will be presented. On April 18, coinciding with International Day for Monuments and Sites, the II Theatrical Heritage Route 'Noche en Blanco' will be held, one of the program's highlights, tracing the municipality's history from Roman times through the Andalusian period to the Christian era with theatrical and musical performances.
On April 19, a cultural trip to the municipalities of Montefrío and Moclín will explore historical connections with Iznalloz, especially concerning the Nasrid defensive system and the renowned Siete Villas. On April 20, students from IES Montes Orientales will visit the parish church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios. The events will conclude on April 21 with a guided visit to the 'Mater Remediorum' exhibition for the elderly residents of the municipality.
