Pistachio, known as the new 'green gold', is experiencing significant growth in the Province of Granada. This nut, which has gained popularity in haute cuisine and various products, now comes in ice cream form from Mercadona, joining market trends.
The Province of Granada has established itself as a leader in pistachio production in Andalusia, with the region being the second nationally, only behind Castilla-La Mancha. The climate of Granada, especially in the northern area including municipalities such as Baza, Huéscar, Guadix, Iznalloz, and Alhama, is ideal for its cultivation.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, the province already has more than 4,377 hectares dedicated to pistachio cultivation, with an increase of over 1,155 new plantations in the last year. This growth reflects the increasing demand and interest in this product.
Mercadona's new ice cream, under its Hacendado brand, is presented as an almond praline with pistachio coating and pieces. In addition to its appealing flavor, it is suitable for coeliacs as it is a gluten-free product, offering a refreshing and accessible option for summer. A box of six units costs 4.60 euros.
