The city of Granada is preparing to host the seventh edition of the Milnoff Flamenco Festival, an event scheduled from June 9 to 13 that aims to solidify the Andalusian city as a global benchmark for flamenco art. The festival will fill various city venues with music, dance, and public activities, reaffirming its importance on the cultural calendar.
The Councilor for Culture of the Granada City Council, Jorge Saavedra, highlighted during the presentation the commitment to citizen participation through free activities in streets and open spaces. He also emphasized how the festival contributes to strengthening Granada's bid for European Capital of Culture 2031.
Inspired by the historic Concurso de Cante Jondo of 1922, promoted by figures such as Manuel de Falla, Federico García Lorca, and Ignacio Zuloaga, the Milnoff Festival maintains its objective of bringing flamenco closer to all audiences and connecting it with Granada's historical heritage.
The main program will kick off on June 9 at the Palacio de los Córdova with the Granada 2031 Inauguration Gala, featuring the zambra show 'Gitanas del Sacromonte', Carlos de Jacoba and Bandolero singing Lorca, Josemi Carmona with 'Pinceladas', and Antonio Cortés alongside Juana Carmona Heredia as guest artists.
On June 10, the Auditorio La Chumbera will host the performance of Juan José Suárez 'Paquete' accompanied by La Tana. The following day, June 11, the same venue will be dedicated to dance with the show 'Bailaores', starring Pastora Galván, Joaquín Grilo, Manuel El Carpeta, and Juan Andrés Maya.
Cante (singing) will take center stage on June 12 at the Teatro Isabel la Católica with 'Canta Granada', led by Pedro El Granaíno. The festival will conclude on June 13 with the recital 'Maestros', by the acclaimed guitarist Rafael Riqueni.
Complementing the main shows, the festival will offer a parallel free program. The Plazoletas Flamencas in Plaza Bib-Rambla will feature performances by Agustín Carbonell 'El Bola', Manuel Heredia, and Niño Carmelo alongside María La Canastera between June 11 and 13.
Additionally, the Flamenco Sunsets will return to the BeHeaven Granada terrace, with performances by La Junquerita, Jalezz, and Marino Tirado. The festival will also include an Arts Week with conferences and educational activities aimed at schoolchildren, seeking to introduce flamenco and its cultural dimension to new generations.
