Granada Prepares for Drastic Weather Change with Rain and Temperature Drop

The province of Granada is bracing for a major weather shift this week, as an isolated depression at high levels (DANA) and a polar air mass are set to bring a period of instability, rainfall, and a significant drop in temperatures.

The end of April and the beginning of May have been marked by intermittent storms in Granada, a trend of spring weather changes that will intensify in the coming days. Meteorological instability will increase across Spain due to the convergence of a DANA and a polar air intrusion, which is expected to move towards the southern Iberian Peninsula.
According to Meteored España forecasts, the situation will be dominated by low pressures and cold air at high altitudes, a phenomenon favored by a powerful anticyclonic ridge in the North Atlantic. The cold low-pressure system, initially detached to the west of the Peninsula, will evolve into a DANA, maintaining unsettled weather for much of the week and potentially moving towards Granada from Thursday.
Although the week began with alternating sun and clouds, especially on the Coast, where weak and isolated showers were expected, the situation will change dramatically. On Thursday, the southward movement of the DANA and the entry of polar air could create a more unstable scenario. However, the evolution and intensity of this episode from Friday still present some uncertainty.
For Friday, rain is expected to return to the northern provinces, with the possibility of irregularly extending to several Mediterranean and southern provinces, including Granada. In the province, cloudy intervals, temperatures around 20º C, and the possibility of storms moving from the west towards the center and north are anticipated. Snow will also appear in the main mountain ranges, with the snowline potentially dropping to 1500 meters between Thursday and Friday.
The weekend will continue with precipitation, mainly on Saturday in the center of the province, the Alpujarra, and the southeast. On Sunday, overcast skies are expected, but with less rainfall. The combination of the DANA and successive polar air intrusions will cause a generalized thermal drop, with temperatures below average for mid-May, especially between Thursday and Saturday.
