Following the recent earthquake, Granada City Council has received over 800 inspection requests, with 154 firefighter interventions, confirming the structural integrity of most buildings.

The Granada City Council maintains an active municipal and technical deployment to assess the consequences of the seismic event recorded in the early hours of August 15th. Initial assessments indicate that the load-bearing structure of most inspected buildings responded adequately, with detected damage primarily affecting non-structural elements like cracks and fissures.
More than 800 inspection requests have been processed in the capital and the Metropolitan Area. Coordinated efforts by the Fire Department, Local Police, Civil Protection, and technical architects are enabling the evaluation of affected properties. To date, 579 calls and 618 services requested via 112 have been managed.
Mayor Marifrán Carazo has conveyed a message of calm and prudence to citizens, assuring that all municipal resources are being mobilized. "The initial inspection results are reassuring, as we are not facing widespread structural damage," she stated, adding that the operational deployment will continue for specialized assessments.
Between 08:30 and 18:00 on August 15th, the Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service (SPEIS) handled approximately 400 requests and conducted 122 inspections, 106 of which were in the Metropolitan Area, particularly in Ogíjares. By 08:00 on August 16th, an additional 32 interventions were carried out, 26 in the southern part of Granada and six in the Metropolitan Area.
Firefighters are performing sanitation work and removing unstable elements, in coordination with municipal technicians and architects. The deployment is expected to be reinforced with more personnel to expedite inspections.
The observed damage mostly consists of cracks, fissures, and localized detachments in plaster, false ceilings, and interior partitions. While noticeable, these damages do not compromise the overall stability if they do not affect the building's load-bearing elements.
Particular attention is being given to traditional buildings with brick load-bearing walls. Current inspections suggest that the damages are repairable and do not pose a stability risk, without prejudice to subsequent monitoring.
The Zaidín neighborhood in Granada capital, especially the Santa Adela housing area, has been a focal point of resident concern due to the age of the buildings and the visibility of the seismic effects.
The Mayor praised the "enormous response capacity" of the municipal services, highlighting the work of firefighters, local police, civil protection, and technicians in ensuring safety and addressing pending requests.
The City Council reminds the public that a crack does not necessarily indicate a building's stability is compromised. However, significant deformations or structural damage should be reported to the relevant services for technical assessment.
