The Protection Citizen Commission of the Granada City Council has been the scene of an intense confrontation between the municipal groups of the PSOE and the PP, centered on the situation of the Local Police. Recurring topics include alleged rigging in competitive examinations and internal investigations into officers, a debate that the PSOE reignited by demanding explanations and criticizing the PP's management.
The socialist spokesperson, Raquel Ruz, initiated the discussion by referring to a letter from the police union Sipan addressed to the mayor. This document concerns an investigation opened by the Granada City Council against a police officer who, according to the union, did not yield to pressure to withdraw fines for individuals affiliated with the PP. The PSOE accuses the PP of “persecuting officers who try to do their job.”
“"It causes us astonishment and sadness what we describe as an episode of 'witch hunt' to which some members of the Local Police force are being subjected, who distinguish ourselves by never having bowed to the wills of the members of the alleged criminal organization."
The Sipan union laments that “victims have been turned into villains” by opening a confidential information file against them for allegedly leaking information to the press. Furthermore, they criticize the lack of investigation into other leaks and into members of the KGB group, who, according to the union, admitted to leaking information to former PP councilor, César Díaz. Therefore, Sipan requests the immediate opening of disciplinary proceedings against all involved.
In response, PP councilor Agudo accused Ruz of “making up a story” and pursuing a political “war.” Agudo defended the municipal action, pointing out that a confidential investigation was opened to look into the leak of a disciplinary file against a public official, an incident she considered serious. She insisted that there is no “vendetta” and that the corresponding legal processes are being followed, including the file opened against Jiménez Avilés.
“"It's not a matter of democracy, it's about inventing. There is no intention to hide anything here; there are judicialized matters, what more do you want us to do? The other issue is the leak of a disciplinary file that no one is investigating. You keep trying to create stories that only you believe. Every commission is a little play."
Ruz, for her part, defended her role in opposition, stating that it is her duty to scrutinize the Government and that if Agudo is bothered by it, she has a “democratic deficit.” The socialist concluded that there are “pseudo-mafia ways of running a body” and held Agudo and Mayor Carazo responsible for the situation.
