The province of Granada has surpassed a thousand hunting reserves, distributed over an area of 951,397 hectares, representing 14% of the total in Andalusia, as highlighted at the Provincial Assembly of the Andalusian Hunting Federation (FAC).

These figures underscore the significant presence of hunting activity in the Granada territory, especially in rural areas, where it coexists with other economic and social activities. The Provincial Assembly of the Andalusian Hunting Federation (FAC), held in the city, served as a forum to analyze the current situation of hunting at both provincial and regional levels.
During the meeting, the importance of dialogue spaces with the sector was emphasized, as they facilitate the exchange of experiences and the dissemination of relevant information on the development of hunting activity. These forums are crucial for understanding the challenges associated with hunting and fostering collaboration among the various stakeholders.
The Minister of Sustainability and Environment of the Junta de Andalucía, Catalina García, highlighted the “One Health” approach as a fundamental pillar for the analysis of hunting activity. This model integrates environmental health, animal health, and human health, offering a comprehensive perspective for wildlife management.

"This approach allows addressing the presence of wildlife from a more complete perspective, taking into account different factors that affect the territory and those who live in it."

The minister explained that monitoring wild animal populations, especially in certain species, requires a broad vision that considers both the balance of ecosystems and potential health implications and their relationship with the rural environment. In this regard, the Andalusian Hunting Plan 2023-2033 incorporates hunting health within the One Health approach, recognizing that the overabundance of species such as deer and wild boars, along with the concentration of animals at water or feeding points, can increase the risk of disease and zoonosis spread.
As part of this plan, epidemiological surveillance and biosecurity actions are planned, as well as training for hunters in prevention and control. Their direct participation is vital for observing and monitoring these populations and for the early detection of potential health incidents. In the province of Granada, during the 2024-2025 season, 13,557 wild boar captures were recorded, in a regional context with 72,254 specimens extracted, in response to the health situation and the risk of African swine fever spreading.
The president of the Diputación de Granada, Francisco Rodríguez, expressed his satisfaction at hosting this event, highlighting the importance of hunting for the province, not only as a sports activity with over 12,000 federated licenses but also for its contribution to the maintenance and care of the rural environment, being an economic driver for many municipalities.
