The Juventud neighborhood in Granada now boasts a new Health Center, a healthcare facility spanning over 3,187 square meters designed to serve 20,000 residents and enhance Primary Care in one of the capital's most expanding areas.
The inauguration, presided over by the acting Minister of Health, Antonio Sanz, marks a milestone in improving public healthcare in Granada. The center, which has already managed nearly 1,300 appointments between June 1st and 9th, fulfills "more than two decades of residents' demands," according to Sanz's statements.
Sanz highlighted that the new facility, featuring 35 consultation rooms, including specialties like retinography, physiotherapy, and radiology, along with a mammography and orthopantomography unit, addresses the needs of an area with "significant urban development" and provides "quality" healthcare.
The mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, emphasized the inter-administrative collaboration that made this infrastructure possible, bringing healthcare closer to the Juventud and Rosaleda neighborhoods, particularly benefiting the elderly and families. The center, currently serving 6,743 people, will be expanded after the summer to reach its full capacity.
The minister also noted the Andalusian Government's commitment to renovating healthcare infrastructure in the province, with an investment of 97.4 million euros since 2019 and a 25.3% increase in healthcare professionals, exceeding 17,000 in the province.
“"They did not invite anyone from the Ministry, the Government Delegation in Andalusia, or the Sub-delegation to be present, even though the Spanish Government has paid 6.8 million euros and made the health center a reality."
In contrast, the Secretary General of PSOE Granada, Pedro Fernández, criticized the Junta de Andalucía's "institutional disloyalty" for excluding the Spanish Government from the inauguration, despite the Ministry of Health having funded 6.8 million euros of the project.
