This ambitious project, submitted to the call for aid from Red.es, an entity under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, seeks to integrate digital twins, smart sensors, connectivity, and artificial intelligence to modernize the conservation and dissemination of Granada's extensive cultural legacy. The Provincial Council would contribute 231,000 euros of the total budget if the requested funding is secured.
“"This initiative represents an important step to place Granada's heritage at the center of a strategy based on innovation, sustainability, and territorial cohesion."
According to María Vera, spokesperson for the provincial government team, digitalization will make these spaces “more accessible and attractive,” helping to diversify the tourist offer. Furthermore, the initiative could “help redistribute visitor flows,” generating new economic opportunities in municipalities with valuable historical heritage that has not yet been fully exploited.
The province of Granada boasts a vast heritage, including castles, walls, towers, and convents, spread throughout its territory. However, many of these enclaves face challenges in terms of conservation, accessibility, and visitor management. The project proposes the creation of an intelligent digital heritage network to improve its management and enhance its role as a complementary tourist resource to the province's main attractions.
The proposal also includes the establishment of a provincial heritage data laboratory, which will provide structured information and analysis tools to companies, entrepreneurs, and tourism agents, thereby fostering innovation in the sector. Additionally, training actions will be developed for municipal technicians and industry professionals to facilitate the adoption of these technologies and promote new economic opportunities linked to digital tourism.
Expected objectives include an increase in the number of visitors to the included enclaves, a rise in average tourist spending, and the creation of associated employment, consolidating a new innovation ecosystem around Granada's historical heritage.
