The Granada City Council has launched an educational program to bring the figure and legacy of Federico García Lorca to nearly a thousand schoolchildren in the city, fostering comprehensive artistic education.

The initiative, titled 'Conoce a Federico García Lorca' (Get to Know Federico García Lorca), is part of the municipal educational offerings for the 2025-2026 academic year. It is aimed at students in the First Cycle of Compulsory Secondary Education and Permanent Education, and is framed within the Cultural Education block.

"This program represents a firm commitment to an education that goes beyond theoretical content, bringing our students closer to one of Granada's most universal figures through the experience of getting to know him firsthand and delving into his life and work in a completely different way, from emotion."

The program, free for participating schools, consists of an itinerant workshop-show led by the company Bambino Teatro. For 60 minutes, students actively participate in activities that combine acting, music, dramatized reading, and reflection, aiming for a comprehensive artistic education.
Throughout the workshop, the different stages of Federico García Lorca's life – childhood, youth, maturity, and death – are explored, along with the places and people associated with them. His work is approached from multiple disciplines such as literature, theater, music, and historical memory. Students work with texts from Romancero gitano and participate in dramatized readings of works like Bodas de sangre or La casa de Bernarda Alba, reflecting on universal values such as freedom, identity, tradition, and social justice.
The poet's childhood is presented through music, oral tradition, puppets, and popular songs. His student period is explored through the aesthetic evolution of his poetry, from symbolism to avant-garde experimentation. Lorca's maturity, in balance between tradition and avant-garde, is studied with a dramatized and participatory reading where music plays a prominent role. Finally, the poet's death is reviewed by placing students in the historical context of the Spanish Civil War.

"We want students not only to know Lorca, but to interact with his work, to interpret it and reflect on it, thus developing key competencies and a critical and creative perspective."

This initiative aligns with Granada's bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2031, highlighting one of the fundamental pillars of its cultural identity for new generations. The program includes eleven workshops during the second and third trimesters of the academic year, with the participation of eleven educational centers in Granada.
