Granada is facing the toughest days of the third heatwave this Wednesday and Thursday, with thermometers expected to reach nearly 43 degrees Celsius. Nights will remain tropical, making rest difficult, and a large part of the province will be under an orange alert for extreme temperatures. In the north of the province, storms are also not ruled out.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated the orange alert in the Genil basin, which includes the capital and its metropolitan area, between 1:00 PM and 8:59 PM. Highs of 43 degrees Celsius are forecast for today and 42 degrees Celsius for tomorrow. Thursday morning will see a low of 25 degrees Celsius, confirming another tropical night.
The northern regions, such as Baza, Guadix, and Huéscar, will also reach 42 degrees Celsius on both Wednesday and Thursday, under the same orange alert. Today, a significant thermal contrast is also expected with lows of 19 degrees Celsius and an 80% probability of storms between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM, which could be accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts.
The Costa Tropical will experience more moderate temperatures, with highs around 33 degrees Celsius and lows of 24 and 25 degrees Celsius, remaining outside the alerts for extreme heat.
Sierra Nevada and La Alpujarra will be under a yellow alert, with highs potentially exceeding 38 degrees Celsius and lows up to 26 degrees Celsius.
The extreme heat is expected to begin to subside from Friday, with forecast highs of 38 degrees Celsius in the capital and 33 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Health authorities recommend exercising extreme caution, such as avoiding sun exposure during the central hours of the day, staying hydrated, wearing light clothing, and seeking cool or air-conditioned spaces, paying special attention to vulnerable groups.
