The sub-delegate of the Government in Granada has stated that the National Police acted with "absolute professionalism and proportionality" during the Vox pre-campaign electoral event held in Plaza de las Pasiegas in Granada. These statements come after criticism from the political party regarding the security arrangements.
The incident occurred when a group of anti-fascist demonstrators, whose gathering was unauthorized, assembled a few meters from the rally. The situation escalated when attendees of the Vox event moved towards the demonstrators, leading to police charges. During these events, one person was arrested for "assaulting authority" and four others were identified for participating in an "unannounced concentration".
“"We will, of course, study the actions, but the first thing to denounce is how the Ministry of Interior and its government delegate failed to guarantee the safety of the Andalusians who were there."
The political party has complained that the simultaneous occurrence of both gatherings in such a central and small area, next to the Granada Cathedral, required a more extensive security deployment to prevent incidents. For its part, the sub-delegation has reiterated that the police operation was focused on "guaranteeing the right to assembly" and not on "repressive surveillance".
Reactions to the altercation have been swift. A Vox spokesperson announced that the party would consider legal action over the disturbances, insisting that the Ministry of Interior and the Government Delegation failed to ensure the safety of attendees. From the opposing ideological spectrum, a spokesperson for Adelante Andalucía has called for measures against the party's bodyguards and demanded the resignation of the sub-delegate of the Government in Granada, arguing that "these individuals were allowed to breach the police cordon and act with total impunity".
