A new fire has sparked alarm in Granada, specifically in the vicinity of the Juncaril Industrial Estate, located between the metropolitan towns of Albolote and Maracena. The striking images of the flames have led to the suspension of Metro services due to the dense smoke column obscuring the sky.
Personnel from the Infoca device of the Junta de Andalucía, specialized in forest fires, have already been deployed to the area given the severity of the incident, despite the fire originating in an area close to urban land. The fire is located on Calle Motril, in Albolote, and appears to have started in a wooden pallet warehouse, causing significant combustion.
The danger is amplified by it being an industrial zone like Juncaril, which houses companies engaged in various tasks, and where the presence of flammable products could intensify the fire. The proximity to neglected areas with abundant undergrowth in this industrial park, near the Granada Ring Road, has been highlighted as a recurring problem, as reported after a similar incident two weeks ago that took two days to extinguish.
Firefighters from the capital are currently working to mitigate the fire, which originated next to the road connecting Maracena and Albolote. A firefighter required medical attention for smoke inhalation.
