The province of Granada and the neighboring province of Jaén experienced two seismic events in just eleven minutes this Wednesday, July 8th. The epicenters were located in the towns of Montillana (Granada) and Noalejo (Jaén), approximately four kilometers apart.
According to information from the National Geographic Institute (IGN), the first tremor occurred in Montillana at 11:56 AM. It had a magnitude of 2.5 and was located very close to the surface. The 112 emergency service received no calls reporting damage, indicating it was a minor earthquake, common in the area.
Just eleven minutes later, at 12:07 PM, the IGN reported a second tremor with its epicenter in Noalejo, a town in the Sierra Mágina region, four kilometers from Montillana. This second earthquake had a magnitude of 2 degrees and was located at a greater depth, one kilometer. Similar to the previous one, no damage was reported, nor was it significantly felt.
In the afternoon, at 4:44 PM, an aftershock occurred in Montillana. The IGN registered a new earth movement of 2.3 degrees, also superficial and barely perceptible.
