Originally from Orihuela, Gonzalo Tafalla, better known as Don Gonzalo, settled in Granada in the early 2000s. His arrival, initially motivated by personal reasons, soon evolved into a deep connection with the city, especially its effervescent cultural environment. From the outset, Tafalla perceived a different Granada, characterized by social closeness and the absence of barriers, elements that, according to him, define the Granadan essence.
Don Gonzalo's cultural drive was not new; already in the nineties, in Alicante, he edited fanzines and actively participated in the music scene. This passion led him to quickly integrate into the Granadan ecosystem, first in bars like Segunda Edición, a meeting point for musicians and artists, and later as a DJ, performing at various national festivals. His experience and contacts culminated in 2012 with the opening of Discos Bora Bora, a space that today is a pillar of musical culture in Granada.
“"Playing music has been the best decision of my life. It has allowed me to meet incredible people, travel all over the country, and have experiences I wouldn't have had otherwise."
The creation of Discos Bora Bora occurred at a challenging time, before the resurgence of vinyl. To ensure its survival, Tafalla implemented an innovative strategy: organizing in-store concerts. This initiative not only attracted audiences and artists but also forged the establishment's identity, making it a benchmark for live music and record sales.
Despite the challenges, Don Gonzalo expresses deep enthusiasm for Granada, highlighting its cultural potential and open character. However, he also emphasizes the need for greater support and continuity for cultural projects, so that the city does not lose its essence. His vision for the future is a Granada with a constant and diverse cultural agenda, that keeps its identity and its ability to generate talent alive.
