The provincial institution of Granada has started the recruitment of the first thirty volunteers who will form its future Civil Protection Unit. This step follows the approval of its own regulation, in compliance with the decree from the Regional Government of Andalusia that allows provincial institutions to lead these initiatives.
The deputy for Municipal Assistance and Emergencies, Eduardo Martos, explained that budget allocations are already being created for the acquisition of vehicles, material, and communication equipment for the unit. The future unit will serve activities of the Provincial Council itself, such as sporting events or those with a high concentration of people.
Furthermore, it will offer coverage to municipalities in Granada that lack a local unit and request it for high-attendance events. Martos noted that there are currently around 60 Civil Protection units in the province, meaning over a hundred municipalities do not have this service.
The Provincial Council's Civil Protection Unit will also intervene in emergency situations, collaborating particularly with the institution's Firefighters. Additionally, it can support local units that require more personnel for large-scale activities.
The initial plan to cover the needs of 30 volunteers in terms of uniforms, vehicles, and equipment is due to the budget allocations already in place. However, the Provincial Council anticipates high participation and plans to create a waiting list for future incorporations.
The application process requires candidates to submit a curriculum vitae, relevant certifications in Civil Protection and Emergencies, and proof of prior participation in other volunteer units.
