The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) estimates 133,600 journeys on the roads of the province of Granada during the special operation for the August 15th holiday, running from Friday the 15th to Sunday the 16th.

The increase in mobility is attributed to departures and returns from the mid-month change, journeys to tourist areas like the Granada coast, second homes, and leisure destinations. Additionally, the coincidence with local patron saint festivals in numerous municipalities will boost short-distance travel on both main and secondary roads, particularly during nights.
The DGT urges drivers to exercise extreme caution, emphasizing the importance of always using the seatbelt, respecting speed limits and signage, and never driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Preventive checks for speed, alcohol, and drug use by the Traffic Guard Civil will be intensified.
To improve traffic flow and safety during returns from the Costa de Granada, the DGT will implement contraflow lanes on the A44 every Sunday in August, between kilometers 158+500 and 143+520, and between 182+500 and 168+400. This will maintain three lanes of circulation between Motril and the A44 junction with the GR30 in Otura, facilitating the return towards Granada capital. This measure will be operational from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, subject to traffic conditions.
The special operation will involve the full deployment of human and technical resources, including Traffic Guard Civil officers, Traffic Management Center personnel, maintenance teams, emergency services, fixed and mobile speed radars, cameras, unmarked vans for seatbelt and mobile phone use surveillance, helicopters, and drones. Traffic regulation measures may be implemented in high-congestion areas, along with restrictions for roadworks, sporting events, and hazardous goods transport.
Traffic forecasts anticipate higher circulation in the outbound direction from Friday afternoon (4:00 PM - 11:00 PM), particularly towards tourist areas and festival towns. Saturday the 15th will see continued heavy traffic, with added short trips to beaches and festival-related travel. On Sunday the 16th, the morning is expected to be busy with short-distance journeys and beach access, while the afternoon (6:00 PM - 11:00 PM) will concentrate return traffic from tourist zones and the coast.
