The Governing Council of the University of Granada (UGR) has bestowed the prestigious 'Star of the Snows' award upon distinguished athletes Ana Alonso and Audrey Pascual. The award ceremony took place at the emblematic Hospital Real, recognizing their notable sports careers and their connection to the Sierra Nevada region and Andalusian nature.
The award, granted by the UGR's Governing Council in its session on April 10th, honors individuals or entities who have excelled in activities related to Sierra Nevada and sports. Both athletes were selected for "careers that exceptionally illustrate the values and spirit embodied by this distinction."
“"We are enormously proud that an award like the 'Star of the Snows' reaches the hands of two champions, two examples of overcoming, effort, and dedication, which are the best values that can be taught to youth as a path to building the best possible future."
The Rector of the UGR, Pedro Mercado, expressed the institution's pride in having these two sports figures as part of the university community. He highlighted that Alonso and Pascual embody the values of overcoming, effort, and dedication, which are fundamental in inspiring young people.
Ana Alonso, an alumna of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, shared her pride in receiving an award so closely linked to Granada, her city, and Sierra Nevada. She noted the special significance of the award as she follows in the footsteps of her father, who also received it in 1979, thus maintaining a family connection with the university.
Audrey Pascual, a student in the Audiovisual Communication degree, expressed her excitement and gratitude. She moved to Granada five years ago to train in Sierra Nevada and emphasized the support the university has provided her in balancing her sports career with her studies, expressing her passion for both aspects.
