Seismic activity continues in Tabernas, Almería, with a new tremor recorded in the early hours of Friday, April 17. This earthquake, measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale, occurred at 5:31 AM, disrupting the sleep of residents.
According to data from the National Geographic Institute, the epicenter was located 4.0 kilometers deep, north of the urban center, specifically in the Maridiego ravine. The intensity of the tremor was II-III on the European macroseismic scale, indicating a weak perception, but it was clearly felt in the neighborhood of Puente de Guayar, near the cemetery, as well as in the center of Tabernas and in Velefique.
This event marks the third earthquake in the Tabernas region in the last week. Previously, on Friday, April 10, a 1.5 mbLg magnitude tremor was recorded at 8:38 PM, followed by another of magnitude 2.0 on Saturday, April 12, at 6:19 PM, with its epicenter in Turrillas.
In the last month, the area has experienced six earthquakes, although most have been of low magnitude and not perceived by the population, with the exception of the one that occurred early this Friday. It is worth noting that in February, more than thirty earthquakes were recorded in Tabernas and nearby towns, with a notable 4.2 Mw magnitude event on Monday, February 16, at 00:55 AM, which was felt in four provinces: Almería, Granada, Jaén, and Murcia, without causing any damage.
