After several weeks of tranquility, during which tectonic plates had ceased their activity in the municipality of Tabernas, the earth trembled once again. The National Geographic Institute (IGN) confirmed the event, which occurred at 6:19 PM on Sunday, April 12.
The earthquake's epicenter was located in the municipal area of Turrillas, very close to Tabernas, at a depth of 8 kilometers. The recorded magnitude was 2 degrees on the Richter scale, according to data provided by the IGN.
This event was not the only seismic activity in the province over the weekend. On Friday, April 10, two other smaller tremors were detected. One occurred in Níjar, with a magnitude of 1.7 degrees at 10:27 AM, and the other in Partaloa, measuring 1.8 degrees, recorded at 10:58 AM.
