Amidst the anticipation for the arrival of the AVE high-speed train and the gradual decline of conventional railway connections, three centenary stations in the province of Almería remain active. These are the stations of Gádor, Gérgal, and Fiñana, which, despite challenges, continue to serve passengers with competitive fares ranging from 10 to 14.95 euros.
These infrastructures, all commissioned in 1895, have seen their direct connection to Madrid eliminated following Renfe's restructuring in 2024. Currently, they only operate Medium Distance services linking to Granada and Almería, with the last train, a 599 diesel railcar, passing through Gádor at 00:15.
Gádor station, located at kilometer point 234.3 of the Linares-Baeza-Almería line, offers two daily trains in each direction to Granada and Almería. Despite its central location, the station has a nearby level crossing that remains a risk point. Meanwhile, Gérgal station is situated almost 9.4 kilometers from the urban center, posing a challenge for travelers. It offers similar schedules, with trains to Granada and Almería.
Finally, Fiñana station, at PK 181.8, is the last stop before entering Granada territory. Although also distant from its urban core, over 2 kilometers away, it sees more passenger activity. This station, like the others, retains elements of its past, such as old water tanks, and benefits from its location between Sierra Nevada and Los Filabres, making a canopy essential for users.
While the main buildings of Gádor and Gérgal remain closed, with Gérgal's clock stopped, Fiñana station provides a canopy to protect users. These three stations, along with Huércal-Viator (temporarily converted into a Terminus) and Almería Intermodal, are the only active railway points in the province, keeping a vital connection alive for their communities.
