The National Police arrested three people on Tuesday following an attempted eviction at the buildings on Castellar street, in the heart of Seville. The incidents took place between the residents and artisans of the building and an eviction company, hired by the owner who intends to convert the property into tourist apartments. Authorities dispatched reinforcement units and have not ruled out further arrests.
The conflict began when several individuals from the eviction company entered the building, clashing with the occupants. Verbal and physical confrontations ensued, with residents shouting for help and accusing the evictors of theft and assault, while the evictors recorded the scene.
The Castellar buildings were a focus of protest on June 17 during a housing march in Seville. Demonstrators denounced "criminal real estate harassment" by the property owner of the heritage building, aiming to transform it into tourist accommodation.
