A dense haze and a strong burnt smell from the Niebla fire enveloped various areas of the Huelva province on Tuesday, including the capital and coastal towns like El Portil, El Rompido, and Isla Cristina, causing concern among citizens.

Tuesday morning began with a noticeable presence of smoke and a pungent burnt smell in the city of Huelva, originating from the fire in Niebla. The smoke screen lasted until mid-morning, also affecting coastal spots such as El Portil, El Rompido, and Isla Cristina, as well as inland municipalities like San Juan del Puerto, Trigueros, Beas, and Valverde del Camino.
In response to the situation, the Huelva City Council, through its emergency channel, disseminated recommendations from 112 Andalucía. Citizens were advised to close doors and windows, pay special attention to vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, or those with respiratory difficulties, and to stay informed through official channels.
In the commercial area of central Huelva, specifically at the pharmacy in Plaza de las Monjas, there was a surge in the sale of FFP2 masks, a demand not seen since the hantavirus alert. Several pharmacies in the area reported similar sales, mainly to middle-aged customers.
Residents like Manolo alerted the Police upon noticing the smoke from their homes. Others, like Cati, heard the concern from their customers. Comments about the smoke cloud became common among pedestrians. Pepi described the morning as "uncomfortable," noting widespread complaints and an exacerbation of discomfort for individuals with respiratory conditions, such as her asthmatic colleague.
The effects of the fire began to dissipate in Huelva as midday approached, at which point the atmospheric sensation started to improve, although the haze had previously impacted various areas of the province.
