The Huelva municipality of Villanueva de los Castillejos has been the center of a wildfire that began on Monday afternoon and, by early Tuesday morning, necessitated the preventive evacuation of 365 people. The evacuations occurred in residential areas and rural properties in San Bartolomé de la Torre, the direction the flames have moved towards from their origin in the Los Turbios area.
The fire's progression led to the activation of the emergency phase, operational situation 1, of the Plan Infoca at 5:05 PM. The smoke generated by the blaze also caused the closure of the A-495 road to traffic between kilometers 8 and 10.7.
An extensive security operation is underway. After aerial resources were withdrawn at dusk, 250 ground personnel continue firefighting efforts, supported by 13 water trucks, a Wildfire Medical Unit (UIMF), an Advanced Command Post (PMA), and a bulldozer. Plan Infoca reported that teams are focused on containing the left flank and addressing secondary outbreaks.
The Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Huelva has deployed personnel from the El Andévalo station in Alosno to support the Plan Infoca operation. Firefighters successfully protected a home in San Bartolomé de la Torre, keeping the fire at bay, and emphasized that there was no risk to its occupants at any time.
The president of the Huelva Provincial Council, David Toscano, along with Vice President José Manuel Zamora and the President of the Provincial Firefighters Consortium, are closely monitoring the fire's evolution and the actions of the deployed resources.
Additionally, the Ministry of Defense has deployed two firefighting planes from the 43 Air and Space Force Group to assist in the extinction efforts. The EMA 112 service received the first calls reporting the fire on the A-495 road, activating the Provincial Operational Center (COP) of EMA Infoca, the Provincial Firefighters Consortium, the Guardia Civil, the National Police attached to the regional government, and Local Police.
An Advanced Wildfire Post has been established at the equestrian track in San Bartolomé de la Torre. This fire occurs near Alosno, where another fire declared last Thursday was extinguished on Sunday night, having also affected the municipalities of Villanueva de los Castillejos and Gibraleón, and burning approximately one thousand hectares.
